Kulshan Painting Through the Years

Before Kulshan Painting was founded in 2017, our founder, Jon Ralston, worked as a residential painter during his college years at WWU. After graduating in 2007, it was the beginning of the recession that delayed the dream of opening up Kulshan Painting as it is today. 

In 2017, he and his wife decided to relaunch the business with the goal of creating a lifetime family company that can be passed down to the next generation.

With longevity in mind, we focus on sustainable business practices. We have grown slowly since 2017, focusing on developing our skills in residential and commercial work.

2020 marked a big change for the world and especially our business as we navigated working as an in-person service. This led to us leaning into commercial work and growing our skills in larger scale projects. 

While adapting and investing in our people, we have been able to retain expertise which is ultimately what is most important. We have found that sustainability and the ability to grow our service offerings starts with investing in your own employees and having control over the product we produce. Every person in our business has started as an apprentice and worked their way up at Kulshan Painting

Jon Ralston

Since graduating from WWU we have loved the Bellingham community and all the recreation it offers. I founded Kulshan Painting with my wife, Claire, in 2017. Since then, we have continued to grow our family and business alongside each other.

Jacob Albert-Sonneman

I'm a lifelong PNW native from Sandy, OR. Graduated from WWU 2022. I started working at Kulshan in 2018 and learn more about the trade every day. I enjoy snowboarding at Baker and building a life with my wife and family here in Bellingham.
